Join Annie Mae Jefferson Breast Cancer Awareness Foundation in Making a Difference

On December 21, the Annie Mae Jefferson Breast Cancer Awareness Foundation hosted a heartwarming holiday event filled with community, joy, and giving. We distributed hygiene kits, served freshly made sandwiches with chips and water, and held our beloved toy giveaway, which brought smiles to so many kids. The event was the result of lots of hard work from our team and volunteers, and seeing the happiness it brought to families made every moment worth it.

We were thrilled with the amazing turnout and grateful for the chance to connect with so many wonderful people in our community. From the big grins of kids picking out toys to the warm conversations we shared, the day was a beautiful reminder of what we can achieve together. Thank you to everyone who donated, volunteered, or stopped by to make this event such a success. We’re excited to keep building on this spirit of togetherness in the year ahead!

Honoring a Life, Uplifting a Community

Recently, the Bayview community suffered a heartbreaking loss. A middle-aged woman, who had been bravely facing the challenges of drug addiction and homelessness, tragically passed away from an overdose. She was found in her tent, and her death deeply impacted those who shared the streets with her. Out of respect for her family’s privacy, we have chosen not to share her name.

In her honor, and to uplift the community during this difficult time, our team prepared and served over 25 trays of black-eyed peas, rice, and both grilled and fried chicken. The black-eyed peas were chosen for their traditional meaning—symbolizing hope, prosperity, and good fortune.

Those who lived near her received meals first, and the remaining trays were shared with others in need throughout the area. It was a small gesture of care and solidarity in the face of sorrow.

Fighting for Health, Dignity, and Hope—Together.

On October 26, 2024, the Annie Mae Jefferson Breast Cancer Awareness Foundation hosted a powerful Breast Cancer Awareness & Community Support Day in Bayview. Nearly 200 individuals from our community joined us for a day filled with connection, support, and resources. The event featured a heartfelt prayer circle, inspiring motivational speakers, and warm meals served alongside information about local shelters and free cancer care options. Guests also left with hand-crocheted hats and resource guides, ensuring they felt supported beyond the day itself.

A highlight of the event was a visit from the San Francisco Sheriff, who showed his support for both the cause and our community. At the end of the day, we delivered leftover meal kits—chili, rice, and cornbread—to wheelchair-bound homeless individuals who couldn’t attend. It was a day full of purpose and heart, reminding us of the power of compassion and community.
